Weight loss, pregnancy, and genetics are all factors that can cause the tummy to develop loose, sagging skin and a bulging appearance. Though exercise can provide limited toning benefits, no amount of exercise or dieting can restore firmness to loose skin or repair muscles that have been stretched and separated as a result of pregnancy. You can restore a flat, smooth appearance to the abdomen by Houston triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry Mentz. Using a combination of techniques from a full, modified (mini), or extended tummy tuck with abdominal liposuction to meet the patient’s needs, Dr. Mentz can improve the appearance of the waist, giving them the flat stomach and narrow waist they've always wanted. These monumental changes in the torso can have a big impact on a patient’s life. Inspired by their new look and a greater sense of self-confidence, many of Dr. Mentz’ tummy tuck patients implement positive lifestyle habits like regular exercise to further enhance the way they look and feel. Many patients include a tummy tuck as part of their mommy makeover plan to get their pre-baby body back by eliminating unhealthy visceral fat, unattractive stretch marks, and their stubborn belly pooch . A pioneer with years of experience in tummy tuck plastic surgery in the Houston area, Dr. Mentz helps his patient achieve their desired waistline and appearance. Men and women who don't have a lot of excess fat, but want to achieve six-pack abs can consider Abdominal Etching®, invented by Dr. Mentz.

"I went to Dr. Mentz after receiving recommendations from different sources. I had already obtained 3 quotes from other plastic surgeons in Houston for a tummy tuck and liposuction of inner and outer thighs. The quote from his office was in the middle, however, he offered an extended tummy tuck, which the others did not, 2 post-op visits from a nurse, one post-op massage and reassurance of a quicker recovery with the suturing technique he uses with no drainage tubes. I signed-up immediately without even meeting Dr. Mentz and I'm glad I did! The consultation was with his Patient Coordinator, who was very courteous and fit me into her schedule, as I was ready to make a decision and Dr. Mentz didn't have an opening for a consultation that week. I met Dr. Mentz briefly during my next appointment, which was for the pre-op visit and felt reassured that I was a good candidate for this surgery. The day of my surgery is when I actually had an opportunity to show and explain to Dr. Mentz some of my wishes. He was a very good listener. I am very pleased with the results and believe he is a very skilled surgeon. The only issue I had was a rare reaction to the sutures when they began to dissolve (around 4-5 weeks post-op). I went to see him and he said the rash-like symptoms would go away in about a week and they did. I am 52 days post-op, feeling good and I have started exercising. "- A. / Demandforce / May 19, 2014
"Dr. Henry Mentz, Three Time Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, is TOP DOC in the WORLD as far as I'm concerned. There are actually 3 other doctors with his certification in the world....and I think Doctor Mentz is the best. He also has the best location. I drive from OKC for my appointments at his Galleria location in Houston TX.. You will see men & women alike from all over the world in his office. His work is EXCELLENT. I practically had full body lipo and a tummy tuck. I've lost 45 pounds in two months sense the surgery. NO SCAR either. Sewed me from the inside out. This helps with the healing process also. I'm 60 and have the body of a 25 year old. My husband LOVES it. "- R. / Demandforce / Jun 11, 2014
"Hello everyone- I was reading a "few," and I mean "few," negative reviews about Dr. Mentz. I felt the need to share my thoughts. I have been seeing Dr. Mentz for years. He has absolutely transformed me from the inside out. I have had my breast fixed, liposuction, tummy tuck, eyebrow lift and reconstruction of my nose that two surgeons could not fix. These were done with about 3 surgeries over the years. I also see Renée for all my injection fillers. Dr Mentz is an artist!! He can look at you in about 1 minute and is confident in what you need done. I have been reading comments about people complaining they had to wait too long to see him or how he did not spend enough time with them. I would much rather wait two hours to see an impeccable TRIPLE board certified Doctor and have him know exactly what I need then five minutes to see someone who will mess me up forever. If Dr Mentz is busy, and you have to wait then that means everyone is seeing him to either fix something or have something done right the first time around. I have referred him several times to friends and the feedback is always amazing. Dr Mentz and his team are the best of the best! Thank you for making me beautiful Dr Mentz !! Thank you for giving me back my self-esteem ! I am 40 years old and I still get carded. "- H. / Demandforce / Sep 29, 2015
In most cases, an incision is made near the pubic hair line that stretches from hip bone to hip bone. For optimal concealment, this incision is placed beneath the bikini line, so that the resulting scar is well-hidden by swimwear and undergarments. The weakened underlying muscles are repaired and tightened with permanent sutures, and excess skin is removed. A second incision is often made around the navel to tighten loose skin above it; the navel is then repositioned through a hole that is made in the newly firm skin. Incisions are closed with stitches that are removed 7-10 days later. A tummy tuck procedure is generally 2-5 hours in length, and is performed under general anesthesia.
- Dr. Mentz has pioneered two advances in the abdominoplasty procedure to make recovery both safer and more comfortable for his patients. The first is Exparel, a medication applied into the closure site while patients are under anesthesia that provides pain control for 72 hours after surgery. Studies have shown that patients who received Exparel take fewer pain relievers and gain back their range of motion sooner, leading to a quicker recovery. Patients used to compare the discomfort of tummy tuck surgery to a C-section, but this advancement in pain management makes for a much speedier recovery. As one of the pioneer users, Dr. Mentz will be giving the landmark presentation on Exparel in the spring of 2013 at the ASAPS convention.
- The second innovation for the tummy tuck makes recovery more convenient by eliminating the external drain attached to patients after surgery. Dr. Mentz does this by using progressive tension sutures, a surgical technique which provides complete closure of internal tissue layers. This method has proven to reduce pain and recovery time. By reducing irritation and inflammation, this innovative technique eliminates fluid drainage and the need for an external drain.
You will probably feel sore for 2-4 weeks following tummy tuck surgery. Most patients are able to return to work in 2 weeks and resume exercise in 6 weeks. The results of a tummy tuck procedure are typically long-lasting, provided that a stable weight is maintained. Following tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Mentz generally recommends an overnight stay where you will be cared for by our highly-trained registered nursing staff. If you live within 20 miles of our facility, Dr. Mentz will offer a visit to your home by a plastic surgery nurse who is trained to assist you with your recovery. A plastic surgery nurse can also be sent to patients within 20 miles of our office to monitor your recovery, change your dressings, assist with your medication, provide Dr. Mentz with an update on your condition, and answer your questions.
Multiple procedures will reduce the costs for anesthesia and facility time. Please be aware that the prices listed below are for an estimate of fees only and that you will need a consultation to confirm any pricing.
