Ear surgery is most commonly performed for both children and adults to correct the appearance of protruding ears. Children, in particular, often benefit from this surgery in order to prevent the emotional difficulty that is often experienced as a result of being teased about their ears. At his Houston office, triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry Mentz performs ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, to restore the balance and proportion of the ears to the rest of the face. This may include reshaping the ears, pinning the ears back, altering the position of one of both ears, and repairing earlobes.

"Dr. Mentz is the best of the best! His skill and artistry is second to none. He is by far, the most caring doctor I've met, with safety Top priority. His office staff is just as kind and professional. After losing a great deal of weight, I had a lot of extra and loose skin. Even with Bootcamp 5 days a week and spin class, I was disappointed and embarrassed with my body, especially naked. Dr. Mentz did my lower face and neck In January. I can't, nor can anyone else see where the incisions were and it looks just as if I've aged very well. A month ago, Dr. Mentz did extensive body work. It hasn't even all settled. I'm still swollen, but I'm beyond thrilled. My body is already so much improved and I look so much better! My incisions are straight and low on my lower body. The part where tape is off, I'm amazed at my healing already. My scarring is going to be unnoticeable. My breasts are now perfect. I got improvement, in places I wasn't even expecting, nor do I know how Dr. Mentz pulled it off. Needless to say, I'm over the moon! I can't wait until I'm released to exercise and hit the level of fitness I was going into surgery. In surgeon shopping, Dr. Mentz is pricey, but with him, you get what you pay for. He is worth every penny. You can't go wrong with him as your surgeon. Dr. Mentz delivers incredible results!"- J.G. / Google / Dec 28, 2016

"Dr. Mentz work is outstanding! He specializes in corrective surgery as well. It takes skill, practice and extensive cases to improve another Surgeons poor work/results. Thanks Dr. Mentz, as you have always did an excellent job on the surgeries you've performed on me. "- E. / Demandforce / Nov 24, 2016
The technique used during ear surgery will depend on the age of the patient and their concern. In younger patients, the cartilage is usually soft enough that it can be reshaped using splints. In adults, the cartilage is harder and Dr. Mentz will have to remove and/or reposition the ear cartilage through a small incision. The details of ear pinning, earlobe repair, and other ear surgeries will be thoroughly discussed during the patient’s consultation.
Depending on the type of ear surgery performed, Dr. Mentz will go over specific aftercare instructions and recommendations both before the surgery and before the patient is discharged. Parents will need to watch young children after their surgery to prevent them from scratching or tearing their stitches.
Multiple procedures will reduce the costs for anesthesia and facility time. Please be aware that the prices listed below are for an estimate of fees only and that you will need a consultation to confirm any pricing.

For the most part, the results from ear surgery will be permanent. In some cases, a trauma or accident may alter the shape or proportion of the ears after the surgery, but this can usually be corrected with a second surgery.
Dr. Mentz can perform earlobe repair with ear surgery or separately to mend torn, stretched, or low earlobes. Dr. Mentz will discuss options for repair after a physical exam during the initial consultation with the patient.
Ear surgery is best for anyone whose ears have reached full size, which is usually around age 5-6. Most patients for ear surgery are children who want to avoid teasing before they start school, but ear surgery can be performed on patients of any age.
