Sometimes the veins can become dilated, stretched, or twisted, which leads to the appearance of spider veins or varicose veins on the face and body. While there are many factors that contribute to whether an individual gets spider or varicose veins, these visible veins do seem to increase in their amount and visibility with age.
To avoid having to hide unattractive spider or varicose veins on your face or body, triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry Mentz offers sclerotherapy and laser vein treatments at his Houston MedSpa. Both treatments are noninvasive, create little to no discomfort for the patient, and have no required recovery time.
Procedure Technique
For sclerotherapy, the technician will insert a micro-needle directly into the vein and inject sclerosing solution, which will make the vein turn white and disappear gradually. For a laser vein treatment, the hand piece is passed over the needed areas so the light is absorbed by the targeted blood vessels. The laser light causes the vessel to coagulate and the body will naturally absorb the remains.
Vein Treatment FAQs
Which Treatment?
Sclerotherapy is best for medium (over 3 mm in diameter) sized veins. Laser vein treatment is best for small to medium sized veins (1-3 mm in diameter). During your consultation, your technician will help you decide which treatment is best based on the size of your veins as well as your concerns and goals.
After Treatment?
Your technician will go over any potential side effects and concerns to watch for after your treatment, but most patients don’t have any trouble after vein treatments. It is advised that you wear support stockings and avoid direct sunlight for 2-3 weeks.
Spider Veins?
Spider veins are smaller blood vessels that can be red, purple, or blue. Spider veins can be seen through the skin, most often on the face, chest, and legs. Spider veins can be treated with sclerotherapy and laser vein removal systems.
Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are larger, swollen blood vessels that usually develop on the legs. In addition to be unattractive, varicose veins may cause symptoms like pain, itching, cramping. Both sclerotherapy and laser vein treatments can be used on varicose veins.
