Botox at our Houston Medspa

Botox Cosmetic temporarily improves the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles by blocking the signal from the nerve impulses to the muscles that cause the wrinkles to form.

Containing small amounts of a highly purified protein, Botox Cosmetic is able to provide the skin with a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. Cosmetically, Botox is mainly used to improve wrinkles and prevent future ones from developing.

What is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to temporarily relax the muscles in targeted areas of the face. Botox is made from a low, safe dose of botulinum toxin, a purified protein. When injected into the muscles that are tensed and holding wrinkles in place, Botox instantly smooths the wrinkles and lines to achieve a more youthful appearance.

Botox can be used by younger patients as a prevenative measure to stop wrinkles from forming before they begin. It is most popularly used with patients who are noticing wrinkles and fine lines and would like to turn back the clock to achieve smooth, youthful skin again.

BOTOX FAQ's

How long does a Botox session take to perform?

Botox typically takes less than 20 minutes to perform. This is why many people call Botox a “lunchtime procedure.

What helps Botox last longer?

Do not massage the area right after treatment, but you can do gentle facial exercises to help the Botox spread. Once the Botox has taken effect, stay hydrated, stay out of the sun, moisturize your skin, and take a regular zinc supplement to prolong the anti-aging effects.

Are Botox injections painful?

Patients do not describe the injections to be painful. With a topical anesthetic, the procedure is mostly painless. Without a numbing agent, the pain is minimal.

What are the possible risks of cosmetic Botox?

Pain, swelling or bruising at the injection site
    Headache or flu-like symptoms
    Droopy eyelid or cockeyed eyebrows
    Eye dryness or excessive tearing
    Temporary facial weakness or drooping
    Nausea
    Redness

Will my face look frozen with Botox?

This is a common concern, but when used properly in experienced hands, Botox is applied precisely and exactly only to the muscles that are actively causing the wrinkles, ensuring that you never look frozen or stiff. Done correctly, Botox treatments will allow your face to move naturally.

What is a unit?

Botox is administered in what is called a “unit”, and this is also how Botox is priced. A typical vial of Botox contains 100 units, and different areas of the face will require different amounts of unit. Men will also need more units than women, even if it’s the same area, because their muscles tend to be stronger. During your consultation, we can give you an idea of how many units you will need for your desired results.

Botox treatments

Our aestheticians provide just enough Botox to soften the muscle movement so that your skin can smooth out without you appearing frozen. The product is injected directly into the muscles that are causing dynamic wrinkles using a very fine needle, and the injections take approximately ten minutes to complete.

Downtime and results

One of the best things about Botox is that it requires no recovery time. You’ll be able to return to your regular day immediately. However, some patients do experience a headache or nausea, temporary drooping of the eyelid, and/or bruising and numbness at the injection sites. Results will vary for each individual, but typically final results can be seen in approximately 2 to 3 weeks. The effects typically wear off in 3 to 5 months, at which point you can schedule a maintenance appointment.

What is the Botox lip lift?

If you’re in the Houston area and you’re interested in a lip lift, consider the Botox “lip flip”, a great alternative to dermal fillers.

The Botox lip lift (lip flip) involves using Botox to relax the muscle over the upper lip, which makes the top lip move slightly upward. This creates more volume without having the lips filled.

While the Botox lip lift is often chosen instead of dermal fillers, it can also be used in conjunction with them to enhance or prolong their results. The Botox lip lift/lip flip lasts up to 3 to 4 months.

What is a liquid facelift?

If you’ve heard of a “liquid facelift” but aren’t quite sure what it is, it’s a popular non-surgical treatment that combines Botox and dermal fillers to smooth wrinkles, add volume, and lift sagging skin. It’s called “liquid” because it only uses cosmetic injectables, and “facelift” because it delivers similar youthful results to that of a surgical facelift. (Note that we said similar. Nothing will ever fully replace the traditional, surgical facelift.) First, Botox relaxes the facial muscles, which makes the skin appear smoother. Then, with the addition of dermal fillers, the skin is plumped, creating a new element of youthfulness. The result is excellent and doesn’t require the downtime of surgery.
