Pectoral Etching Overview
Dr. Henry Mentz, a triple board-certified plastic surgeon in Houston invented the Pectoral Etching technique to maximize the athletic, masculine appearance of the male chest. In a Pectoral Etching procedure, Dr. Mentz uses a detailed liposuction technique to outline the pectoralis muscle and axilla to give the chest a more muscular appearance. Dr. Mentz developed a unique puncture incision technique which leaves a generally undetectable scar. With his innovative liposculpting technique, Pectoral Etching and Abdominal Etching, Dr. Mentz has become an international authority on detailed liposuction techniques. Pec Etch is great for men who are not seeing their desired results after regular chest strength training and a healthy diet.
"Dr. Mentz is nothing short of a magician. I went to him for an abdominoplasty in November of 2015 and his work has been life changing. His "bedside manner" is equal to his skill. I did not, for one moment, feel spoken down to or intimidated by his brilliance. He was kind, professional and has a great sense of humor. This man is an artist."- J.R. / Facebook / Aug 16, 2017
"Dr. Mentz and his staff are the best! I have been a patient of Dr. Mentz for about 15 years now and will continue to use his facility because there are many different services available. I am almost 71 years old and people always tell me that I look so much younger than my age. Thank you Dr. Mentz Janet L."- J.L. / Yelp / Feb 27, 2020
"I was a client of his 25 years ago when he did my nose and a bit of lipo. I have thoroughly enjoyed my nose after all these years. It was a tricky surgery, as I had broken it before in a riding accident. Now, 25 years later, I am going back to fix my breasts. I can't say enough good things about him; Many of my friends and clients went to have their surgeries with him after seeing my results and they had no problems."- L.W. / Yelp / Feb 03, 2020
"This Dr and staff are awesome. The offices and care are all first class."- M.N. / Facebook / Dec 21, 2019
"Dr Mentz is an incredibly talented and gracious doctor! With Wonderful bedside manner! He was able to work magic with a rhinoplasty revision from the previous botched nose job I had received from a doctor before him. My nose looks better than it ever has!! He also did a breast augmentation. Upsizing my 10 yr old implants from saline to silicone and a larger implant. And I finally have the breasts I always wanted!! And a testament to his generosity and commitment to perfection, originally I had a smaller implant chosen and after the original surgery was not happy with the size after all. Dr Mentz was kind enough to allow me to go back under the knife only a couple of days after the initial surgery and obtain the larger implants I desired...FREE OF CHARGE!! Only charging me for the price of the implants. His compassion and understanding made me feel like he really cares and his commitment to perfection rivals my own I am about to have a Brazilian butt lift done with him in a month or two and I am so excited!! Because I know what a talented doctor he is!! I would not entrust my body or face to another doctor EVER AGAIN! If your looking for your "happily ever after", look no further! Thank you again Dr Mentz!! For making me feel (and look) whole again!!"- C.B. / Yelp / Oct 03, 2019
Pectoral Etching Surgical Technique
In a Pectoral Etching procedure, Dr. Mentz uses a small, specialized cannula to remove excess fat from the chest area through liposuction. If excess glandular tissue is also present, Dr. Mentz removes this using an innovative puncture incision technique, which generally leaves undetectable scars. Fat is then removed from the edges of the pectoralis muscles and axilla in order to create more visible definition of the muscular contours. The surgery can typically be completed in 1-2 hours as an outpatient procedure.

Pec Etching FAQs
Ab and Pec Etching?
Because many men who are interested in Pectoral Etching also have excessive breast development and softness in the abdominal area, Dr. Mentz frequently combines Pectoral Etching with a gynecomastia procedure to restore a more masculine chest contour and Abdominal Etching to give the abdomen a more athletic appearance. Abdominal Etching is similar to Pectoral Etching in that the underlying muscles of the abdomen are outlined to reveal the contours of the muscles that create the look of “washboard abs.”
Another type of breast enhancement for men in Houston is gynecomastia removal. Gynecomastia is a condition of excess breast tissue in males. This is the treatment of the enlarged male breast that requires a two-step process to remove hardened breast tissue and redistribute fat for a smooth contour. Dr. Mentz makes a small puncture incision around the areola (nipple) and endoscopically cut the breast tissue into small strips so it can then be suctioned out with a thin cannula. Dr. Mentz then loosens the fat cells surrounding the breast tissue and redistributes the fat so the patient is left with a smooth surface where the knot of breast tissue previously existed.
In 1994, Dr. Mentz developed a puncture incision technique for the gynecomastia procedure in order to eliminate any visible scarring. In recognition of his body contouring expertise, the prestigious American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) has invited Dr. Mentz to present his liposculpting techniques to plastic surgeons at its annual meetings for two years in a row. Dr. Mentz has presented his techniques to advance body contouring’s safety, recovery, and results through numerous presentations and publications for plastic surgeons. In addition to authoring three book chapters on liposuction, he has written papers on large volume liposuction and the use of blood thinners after liposuction to reduce blood clots. The ASAPS and Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation jointly awarded Dr. Mentz the “Best Journal Article of 2008” for his article which presented risk assessment for liposuction based upon a review of 3871 consecutive cases.
